Camp ARCH is offered through the College of Architecture at Texas A&M University in partnership with the Youth Adventure Program operated through the Department of Educational Psychology.

Can you visualize yourself as an Architect?  Want to construct your future as an Aggie?  Camp ARCH is designed to help students map out the blueprint to their college career by experiencing first-hand the professions that the College of Architecture has to offer.   Open to students who will be entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year of high school, this residential one-week program allows participants to explore a career field of interest while experiencing the “studio environment” just as professionals would in a design or construction firm.  Taught by faculty and graduate students from the College of Architecture, each specific class is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of the field while allowing them to explore and expand upon their abilities to create and construct projects that will be showcased at the end of the week.  From computer rendering to 3D modeling, students will have full access to the tools and cutting edge technology that will help make their designs come to life.  Finally, campers will experience first-hand the Spirit of Aggieland by staying in the brand new Hullabaloo dormitory and experiencing campus life through participating in interactive and engaging social events.
The Camp ARCH courses available for students to choose from include:

Participants in this class will gain a clear “articulation” as to what the Architecture field entails. This program mirrors the design studio aspect that students of Texas A&M University experience throughout the year and culminates in the creation of a 3D model using AutoCAD, laser cutting, and their own hands to build.  Students will come away understanding what makes a good environment, how to experience and navigate space, generate form, and work as a team.

Construction Science

Participants in this class will get exposed to the “pillars” of construction science. This program will give campers “concrete” examples of what it is like to be a construction science student at Texas A&M University. Campers will participate in activities such as interactive lectures, design/building, site visits, building information modeling, and specialized presentations by faculty in the Department of Construction Science. After completing this program, students will come away with “scaffolded” knowledge of the field and gain a “blueprint” for what a career in this area entails.

Landscape Architecture & Urban Planning

Participants will be exposed to the intricate nature of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning and build upon their ability for development. This program offers campers hands-on decision making exercises that will introduce students to the studio culture, along with tools and techniques associated with this field, including staying on top of topography while “building” their visionary skills in site design. The immersive nature of the course will encourage their individual thought and challenge their initiative within a team dynamic. At the conclusion of the week, students will come away from the program with an enlightened look into studying and working in the field of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning, while a”massing” their ability to create and communicate designs for the public realm.

Visualization:  Game Design

The VizKidsTM Camp: Game Design course will give campers the opportunities to design and create their own video game with a small team of partners. Campers will be responsible for developing the game theme, art, game mechanics and interaction design using an easy-to-learn game engine. A willingness to embrace technology is essential. Experience as an artist and/or programming skills are helpful, but not required. The most important criteria is that the camper be intrigued by the pursuit of making fun and creative interactive experiences.
