Architecture (YAP III) Class is Full for YAP III
Interested in a career in the architecture design disciplines? This course will touch on elements of architecture, landscape architecture, planning, and urban design. This hand-on program will teach you the foundations of the design process and afford you the ability to carry out a full design strategy from analysis to conceptual design. You will start the design process by visiting an existing site and making field notes of existing conditions. Then, conceptualize your ideas through innovative 2-Dimensional diagramming, realistic plan rendering, innovative perspective drawings, and 3-Dimensional digital modeling. Enhance the visual appeal of your design schemes through AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and/or Google Sketchup software applications. Finally, conclude the process by physically realizing your plans by creating a laser cut model of your final site design to "wow" your client and colleagues.
Business: Advertising & Marketing (YAP III) Class is Full for YAP III
Think you have what it takes to be a "real man (or woman) of genius" in the advertising world? Learn about the different aspects of the marketing mix, from radio and television promos, print media design, logo development, and more! Develop your own ad campaign, record commercials, participate in a photo shoot, and work with real-world advertising pros to learn what marketing is really about!
Earth Sciences: (YAP I) Class is Full for YAP I
Have you ever wondered what secrets the Earth is keeping? Well, the Jr. version of this "School of Rock" course will help you get to the "core" of these secrets through hands-on discovery activities, excursions, and a LIVE talk with scientists aboard the Joides Resolution (JR), a seagoing research vessel that drills core samples and collects measurements from under the ocean floor. This course will provide geological excursions, museum trips, career exploration, lab and class activities with cores that are a blast from the past as well as networking and lessons from geologists and other adventure seeking experts in the field of Earth Science. The week will culminate with the students designing an original expedition logo and producing a YouTube video on their discoveries of the Earth's secrets.
Engineering: Aerospace & Mechanical (YAP II) Class is Full for YAP II
Interested in a career in Engineering? This class will introduce students to two A&M areas within the College of Engineering here at Texas A&M University. Be a "rocket scientist" as you start your week learning about jet propulsion and satellites through your time in Aerospace Engineering. Be blown away by a wind tunnel and watch your interest in the field soar through a flight simulation experience. Conclude your week in Mechanical Engineering with high-tech automated LEGO labs designed to give the individual student a glimpse into the fundamentals of the engineering design process and a field trip to see mechanics in motion through a crash-test demonstration. See the inner-workings of this fascinating field through your participation in this hands-on program.
Investigative Forensics (YAP III) Class is Full for YAP III
True to the nature of the forensics fields, students will learn to use anthropological, biological, chemical, and mechanical procedures to analyze a crime scene and determine the nature and cause of a crime. Trace evidence collection techniques (dusting for prints, shoe tread and type, document analysis, etc.) will be combined with advanced criminal techniques (blood splatter analysis, black light technology) to help students work on a realistic crime scene in which students must piece together all the evidence towards the goal of cracking the case!
Medicine (YAP II, YAP III) Class is Full for YAP II, YAP III
Using the high tech facilities at Texas A&M's Health Science Center, students will be immersed in a simulated medical environment through specially designed laboratories and demonstrations. Learn basic surgical skills including suturing and stitching. Practice starting an IV and taking blood on synthetic limbs. Learn anatomy to properly read and analyze x-rays. Take vitals and work on your bedside manner as you diagnose and treat a robot patient who will voice their symptoms and complaints. All instruction is geared to give a real-life and hands-on glimpse into the field of medicine. This is your opportunity to determine if a career in medicine is right for you!
Physical Sciences (YAP II) Class is Full for YAP II
Are you “magnetically” attracted to the world of Physics? Care to “mix” it up with some “elements” of Chemistry? This class highlights all of the scientific aspects that “matter” in our everyday life. Students will be exposed to exciting laboratories and demonstrations while being introduced to the science principles that they will take as they progress through high school and highlight the exciting (and explosive) aspects of careers in these “magnetic” fields.
Robotics: Engineering Technology (YAP III) Class is Full for YAP III
From R2D2 to the Mars Rover, robots are becoming more important in our daily lives! What makes robots tick? How do they see, hear, or sense their environment? How do they make decisions and operate on their own? This course combines science and engineering concepts to provide an exciting and challenging learning experience to help answer some of these questions as students will work to design, build, program, and test their very own autonomous robot!
Theater (YAP II) Class is Full for YAP II
If "all the world's a stage" then YAP is your place to show the world your theatrical talents! Come shine in the spotlight, while learning all of the behind-the-scenes skills it takes to produce a theatrical performance. Brush up on your stage make-up techniques, learn all about lighting, staging, and choreography and figure out "whose line it is anyway" while making your improv debut. Finally, enjoy a blockbuster Broadway field trip to see "Wicked" from box seats at the Hobby Center in Houston!
Veterinary Medicine (YAP I, YAP II) Class is Full for YAP I, YAP II
Are you interested in working with all creatures, great and small? This program will introduce participants to what it takes to get into vet school, what it's like once you are in, and what career options you have once you get out. Participants will meet with admissions committee members and staff, current students in the professional curriculum, and veterinarians involved in areas of veterinary medicine such as small and large animal practice, food safety, and research. Find out if veterinary medicine is for you!
VizKids - Animation (YAP I) Class is Full for YAP I
The VizKidsTM Camp - Animation will provide experience with different forms of animation including hand-drawn, stop-motion, and Flash animation. Students will work individually and as part of small teams to develop expressive character movement. They'll learn how people and animals move to create action, how postures change to show emotion, and how these qualities can be extended to every day objects and fanciful creatures. Timing, editing, composition, and storytelling are all part of the animator's toolkit. Campers are not required to have past experience with technology or art, but will be expected to embrace working with both traditional and computer enabled processes. VizKidsTM is co-hosted by the Department of Visualization (http://www.viz.tamu.edu). Sponsored in-part by the Texas Film Commission.
VizKids - Game Design (YAP II) Class is Full for YAP II
VizKids Camp - Game Design will give campers the opportunities to design and create their own video game with a small team of partners. Campers will be responsible for developing the game theme, art, game mechanics and interaction design using an easy-to-learn game engine. A willingness to embrace technology is essential. Experience as an artist and/or programming skill is helpful, but not required. The most important criteria is that the camper be intrigued by the pursuit of making fun and creative interactive experiences. VizKidsTM is co-hosted by the Department of Visualization (http://www.viz.tamu.edu). Sponsored in-part by the Texas Film Commission.
VizKids - Visual Storytelling (YAP III) Class is Full for YAP III
